Dear fellow peacemakers,

A three course seminar is currently being offered to local parishes, churches and groups.  While all  three courses tie in nicely together, they are also available as individual courses.

Session One
Voices in Wartime: a video followed by the testimony of an Iraqi vet on his wartime experience and post-active duty experience. See www.voicesinwartime.org. Time: two hours allowing for good discussion period
Led by Andrew Himes, project director for Voices in Wartime

Session Two
“Soldiers of Conscience” video followed by a presentation of the classical just war doctrine leading again to open discussion. Time: one and a half hours.

See www.socfilm.com.
Led by Joe Hastings or John-Otto Liljenstolpe with participation of local clergy if desired

Session Three
Jesus & Jihad, a 40 minute presentation followed by discussion on the centrality of the holy war motif in both the Old and New Testaments and how this motif becomes transformed in the ministry of Jesus and the thought of Paul. In regard to Paul, Romans 12 & 13, especially is focused upon. This presentation involves Scripture readings (read by participants) and a power point presentation showing how ancient Israel (and their neighbors) understood holy war and how Jesus adapted this understanding of holy war to his ministry. (A modern version of the Christus Victor theme is presented here.)
Led by John-Otto Liljenstolpe of Pax Christi Northwest.
